Transactional Analysis

Transactional Analysis

From TRANSACTIONAL ANALYSIS I take the ideas of EGO STATES, LIFE SCRIPTS and Survival Conclusions.

I also use the practice of CONTRACTS with clients to set overarching goals and session-to-session objectives.

EGO STATES-Is the idea developed by Eric Bern that our inner world has a few ego states that co exist and communicate with each other and with the world at any given moment. The ability to clarify and reorganize this inner and outer communication will create empowerment and health for people who are interested in that. Concepts that became familiar from Eric Bern’s work are inner child, inner critic, internal nurturing parent, and the adult ego state. In my sessions I invite clients to talk to their inner child, to reveal the impact of the inner critic and develop the adult and nurturing ego states. I also coach clients to make choices about which ego state will communicate with others in the client’s life.

LIFE SCRIPTS- refers to a dream or a fantasy that every human being develops by the age of 6-7 about what his/her life will look like. It may have developed from movies, books, and important people in your life, but often becomes unconscious while growing up. The idea here is that this life script is a positive force within any individual and often forgotten unless being called upon. In contrast are SURVIVAL CONCLUSIONS-those who needed to survive difficult families, wars or illness and other traumas have developed conclusions about the world and how to behave in it. Those survival conclusions, while being very helpful during distress, tend more often than not to create limitations in people’s lives when circumstances have changed. People live survival scripts instead of LIFE SCRIPTS. In our work, if a person is so interested, I will teach him/her how to separate the two, and to make new decisions about what is possible in life.
